Tools Required:
- A vacuum cleaner with a hose attachment
- A pouring cup with spout or a thin-walled cup (for pouring water)
- A dry cloth (for covering the temperature sensor)
- A slightly wet cloth (for air filter cleaning)
- Viper Pan & Drain Treatment or a similar non-bleach cleaning solution
Before You Start:
- Ensure your unit is unplugged from the power source so it does not trigger the condensate pump during cleaning.
- Please do not use bleach-based cleaning agents, as they can cause corrosion.
Step-by-Step Instructions:
Remove the Front Cover:
- Take off the front cover of the indoor unit to access the filter.
-
Clean the Filter:
- Remove the filter from the unit.
- Use a vacuum cleaner with a hose attachment to clean the front side of the filter, removing all dust and debris.
- Use a slightly wet cloth to clean the air filter surfaces and let it dry.
- You may wash the filter for deep cleaning. Spray water from both sides of the filter, and let it dry before use.
-
Adjust the Unit's Tilt:
- The unit should be tilted by approximately 2 degrees to facilitate drainage. Extend the unit's legs or use a 3/8-inch thick object to prop up the bottom. Please note: You can use a level application on your smartphone to check the angle.
-
Apply Cleaning Solution:
- Cover the Temperature sensor with a dry cloth before starting this step.
- Spray the Viper Pan & Drain Treatment evenly across the heat exchanger. Use the spray nozzle setting for a gentle application.
-
Rinse the Heat Exchanger:
- Using a thin cup, pour at least 13 oz of water over the heat exchanger, moving the cup from left to right to cover the entire area.
- Avoid pouring water directly onto the temperature sensor. The thin cup helps to control the flow of water for an effective rinse.
-
Reassemble
- After you've finished the cleaning process, do not immediately reassemble and power up the unit. Instead, wait about 15 minutes to let any water collected in the condensate tray work to dissolve potential buildup.
- Now, plug the unit back into the power source. There's no need to switch the unit on; the condensate pump will activate automatically.
- The condensate pump will run for approximately 5 minutes to clear out the water and any dislodged debris from the condensate tray.
- Repeating every step one more time is recommended for a deep cleaning.
- You can remount the front cover and the air filter back on the unit.
- Remember to relevel your unit to 0°.
Regular Maintenance:
- Conduct this cleaning procedure every year to maintain the optimal performance of your Gradient.
By following these steps, you can help ensure that your unit continues to operate efficiently and effectively. Remember, regular maintenance can extend the life of your appliance and improve the air quality in your home.
